Machu Picchu "Old Mountain" Often referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas" On July 24th, 1911, Machu Picchu was brought to the attention of scholars by Hiram Bingham (November 19, 1875– June 6, 1956), an American historian, academic, explorer and politician employed as a lecturer at Yale University.
