SUMMARY: Photographs show news photos of S.S. LUSITANIA arriving in New York City on her maiden voyage, Sept. 13, 1907, and subsequent arrivals between 1908 and 1914; survivors of her sinking, May 1915; carrying flag-draped body of victim; removing crated body of victim from rescue ship.
Along with the Mauretania, Lusitania was built in response to the new, faster German steamers. The British Government heavily subsidized the construction of the vessels, having them built to Admiralty specs, for easy conversion to armed merchant cruisers in the event of war. Titanic Inquiry Project
