New York City Public Library Lions Patience and Fortitude. Patience guards the south side of the Library's steps and Fortitude sits to the north in front of the Beaux-Arts building of The New York Public Library at Fifth Avenue between 42nd and 40th Streets in Midtown Manhattan.

The marble lions were designed by sculptor Edward Clark Potter and carved from Tennessee Pink marble by the Piccirilli Brothers in 1911.
