Rose - State Flower of New York

USDA NRCS ND State Soil Conservation Committee; NDSU Extension and Western Area Power Admin., Bismarck, ND.The rose, wild or cultivated, in all its variety and colors, was made the State flower in 1955., Symbol: ROSA5, Group: Dicot, Family: Rosaceae. Roses produce abundant flowers on their thorny bushes as we see in this example.
They are admired for their fragrance amd have been cultivated as early as 4000 BC by Egyptians. Fossil evidence indicates that the family has existed for at least thirty million years. Today their range extends to nearly the the entire northern hemisphere
