Legionnaires' disease is a form of atypical pneumonia caused by any species of Gram-negative aerobic bacteria belonging to the genus Legionella.

The New York City Health Department is currently investigating an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in the South Bronx. 31 cases have been reported since July 10. There have also been two deaths reported in patients with Legionnaire’s disease in these neighborhoods.
