Sheep grazed the meadow until 1934, when Robert Moses, the city's parks commissioner, moved them to Prospect Park, Brooklyn, and then to the safety of the Catskill Mountains.

This path lies between The Dakota Apartments and Strawberry Fields on Manhattan's west side at 72nd street and Central Park West. The building was the home of former Beatle John Lennon. Strawberry Fields is a 2.5-acre landscaped section in New York City's Central Park dedicated to his memory.
